No one...NO ONE was more excited than Gary Weddle!!
Middle school teacher Weddle vowed after the attacks on 09/11 that he would not shave until Bin Laden was captured and/or killed. This weekend he finally got to see himself in a way that he hasn't since that fateful day almost 10 years ago. After about 5 minutes of crying he said he couldn't get it off fast enough.
Then there's Sohaib Athar (@ReallyVirtual). Former IT guy, "tired of the rat race and hiding in the mountains with his laptop" in the obscure town of Abbottabad, Pakistan inadvertently live tweeted the attack on Bin Laden. At the time of this post his small twitter following of about 200 people has blown to over 92,000. After some hesitancy he has now agreed to talk to the media about what he heard, saw, etc. Imagine that. You've quit your job, hid out in a small town where hardly anything ever happens, wake up late to the sounds of helicopters and gun fire, tweet about it, and overnight you become the guy who live tweeted the raid on Bin Laden's compound!!
And finally there's Mariah Carey. After years of safeguarding her personal life (especially after her public divorce from Sony executive Tommy Motola) Carey has opted to open the tabloid floodgates. First with her "secret" wedding to Nick Cannon in April 2008 and then with her over the top anniversary/wedding renewals. So it made perfect sense that they would feed the gossip monster by announcing they were pregnant with twins...then by announcing they were having a boy and a girl...then by releasing details of the baby shower. Then the nude magazine cover photos and the inside look of their $100,000 nursery. Too bad she didn't time the birth of the babies to a weekend other than the weekend when Osama was killed. I'm sure People Magazine would have given her this weeks cover story. Oh well she still hasn't revealed the babies names. Surely the twitter guessing that she started with her followers will garner some attention. In case you care both names start with M.
What other noteworthy stories have you heard since Osama was killed? Has anyone read about Tom Hank's son Chet's crazy deranged tweets? That guy was a little too excited about Osama's death for my taste.
